The update function can only be executed by users with admin rights. There could also be a firewall that blocks the function. In this case it has to be unblocked.
The new function LiveUpdate (introduced August 2007) automatically searches for updates only one time per day. But you can also start the update function manually: Start -> Programs (or all programs) -> ESM-Tools -> LiveUpdate
To execute an update, an admin can use the command Run as... with the same account as the user.
This command can be executed with a right click on the menu item Start -> Programs -> ESM-Tools -> LiveUpdate or directly on the file LiveUpdate.exe in the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\ESM-Tools Shared.
Please keep in mind that the method Run as... only works if a password was previously defined for the admin. This is usually the case with Windows® XP Professional but not with Windows® XP Home.
To define an admin password at Windows® XP Home, please push the F8 button during the boot process of the computer. Then choose the safe mode. In this mode the user Administrator is shown. Now you can log on as admin and then create a password for the user account in the system control.
If the LiveUpdate function will not work (may be because it will be blocked by a router and/or a firewall), you can alternativly update your products by installing the new version from this homepage. All your program settings will be kept by this action. |
