How can I save my program settings?

Before uninstalling a program to reinstall it or to carry over the settings to another computer, you can save your program settings on your harddisk.

To save all settings of all programs you can use the ESM-Backup Tool to save and/or restore or reset your program settings.

 The following functions are available:

  1. Save settings
  2. Restore settings
  3. Reset settings

Explanations:

1.: The complete registry structure HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareVB and VBA Program SettingsESM-Tools will be saved in a registry file (default ESM-Tools.reg) in the directory My Documents (Documents in Windows Vista®). You can this file transfer to another computer or into another user profile and then add to the registry by a double click or using this tool again with function 2..

zu 2.: The saved registry file will be added to the registry. Actual settings will be overwriten and get lost. For this function the file have to be into the same directory in which it was saved (My Documents, and/or Documents, see 1.).

zu 3.: All settings will be deleted! After running this function all tools are in the condition ofthe firstinstallation.

The ESM-Backup-Tool works without admin rights. To restart Outlook® is only necessary if you have reseted the settings. You only need to change the file name if you want to store different configurations. The file name can be any. If you want to save the configuration into a subfolder you can add this folder in front of the file name (e. g. BackupESM-Tools). In this case please pay attention that the subfolder must exists before using the tool.

You can also save manually the settings by exporting the corresponding tree in the registry and import it later to another computer resp. the same machine after reinstallation.

The following procedure is recommended only for trained users because working improperly on the registry editor can cause a complete system failure.

Witht start -> Run -> regedit -> OK you open the registry editor. Export the tree HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareVB and VBA Program SettingsESM-Tools%PROGRAM NAME% in a file onto a harddisk or a network directory. Preferably label the name of the file as the name of the program (where required followed by a user name or computer name).

If several user work with one computer, the procedure has to be repeated for each single user. Therefor each user has to login with his/her own account.

To import data to the target computer just doubleclick on the exported file and confirm the following messages with OK.

Notice: If you want to reinstall the program, please use the exe file again (e. g. through a download button from this homepage). All program settings are saved.
